Background[]
At some point he picked up Donghyuk and began grooming him. Using the popularity he accumulated as a celebrity, Myunghoon lobbied for the title of an A-ranker.[1] He debuted as an A-class hunter on his 20th birthday after his college entrance exam. As a hunter with good looks and star quality, he's appeared in a lot of movies, dramas and commercials. He's also a great singer and has released an album. He's got so much charisma that people calls it getting the Myunghoon syndrome.[2]
As he was gaining popularity 8 years ago, he collaborated on a B-rank gate raid with A-rank hunter, Do Minsoo, with whom he was very close. However, the Myeongdong station gate ended in a variation gate tragedy, where 30 died including Minsoo. All of his drama and music deals were canceled, and he was accused of tax evasion. Court trials were held to investigate the incident, and it took years before Myunghoon was acquitted. Though he was found innocent of tax evasion, all sorts of tabloids and speculation articles had already greatly damaged his public image. He did appear in a few programs after that, but he eventually retired from showbiz quietly as people lost interest in him.[3] He was even disqualified as ranker. Now almost no one recognises him anymore.[2]
Last year, he began thinking it over and took over a guild from an acquaintance who was about to retire, changing its name to Star Guild. While it was originally one of the top three guilds in Incheon, it only ended up in a few articles.[2]
Peace Guild Collab[]
When he saw in an interview that the toll-gate hero was a fan of his, he sought him out.[2] Over coffee, he invited Taekyung to join his guild or agency, but was rejected. However, the tabloids got news of it anyways, but he swiftly told them the rumors were unfounded and visited Peace Guild directly to apologize.[3] He then made a deal to run a collaboration raid of an A-rank gate the next day at 2pm. Outside, he makes a call to Kim Donghyuk and heads to the hair salon, since it's been a while since he was on TV. However, he suddenly changes the raid location from the Manticore's Jungle to the Black Wyvern's Den, something he blames on Donghyuk. Minwoo cancels the raid out of concern for Taekyung, however they go through with it anyways at Taekyung's request.[4]
Inside the gate, Myunghoon gifts Taekyung a Yeti's Necklace, before joining the reconnaissance team. However, Taekyung notices that Hyukjun is struggling so he passes the gift over to him to help him keep cool and preserve his energy. Soon enough a green wyvern appears, which Myunghoon puts down with a spear throw. Myunghoon checks on Taekyung, and asks if he's still wearing the necklace, before heading back to oversee the dismembering.[5] He is surprised to see Taekyung's skills in single-handedly overwhelming 50 B-rank orcs, realizing he didn't rise to power on a fluke, but still determined to bring him down. When Donghyuk voices his concern that Taekyung might just be stronger than them, Myunghoon shuts him up, and orders him to bring 5-6 fast members to find the boss monster or lure a few wyverns towards them, specifying he wants something stronger than green wyverns.[1]
However, Taekyung happened to discover that it was a fake equipment[?] made by the Hamsbrooks.[6]
Faced with the threat of a named monster, Myunghoon and his party members retreated to the forest area, where they waited near the entrance to ambush and kill any surviving members of Peace Guild,[?] with the goal of making sure none of the members make it out of the gate alive. As Taekyung and Kim Hwajong are traveling through, they're quickly found out by Taekyung despite using concealment skills. While initially threatening Taekyung, Myunghoon is one-sidely beaten by the hunter. He surrenders, but the moment Taekyung turns his back, Myunghoon rises to try stab him. However, Taekyung suspected he would try something again and reacted immediately by summoning two daggers from his inventory and slices him into pieces. Afterwards, Taekyung and Butler Kim escorted the surviving members of Myunghoon's team out and met with journalists outside the gate, where he reports that Myunghoon are among the 7 deceased and that it was he who "took care of" Myunghoon.[7]
Full-scale investigation[]
After Myunghoon's death, the police summoned all the members of the guild for interrogation. Most refused to speak, demanding a lawyer, but Kim Donghyuk (leader of team 1) gave a perfect testimony. On top of that, an USB with a recording of the entire raid process and a letter was sent by an anonymous informant. Investigator Park and the police correctly deduced it was sent from Peace Guild, and although filming is illegal, they dismissed that fact since most guilds do film their raids nowadays. As soon as the full-scale investigation started, Myunghoon's ugly past started to come to light. When his popularity had died down and he was kicked out of the spotlight, he had committed numerous crime - such as scam, murder, assault, blackmail and threats - in hopes of gaining the public's attention again. He also lobbied a lot to reduce the amount of criminal cases he was involved in. In the end, those in the political and financial world that had been involved appeared in front of cameras to adress the case, and they all only had one comment: "I'll do my best to assist in the investigation." The public opinion was mostly positive and supported Taekyung, while a few questioned the ethics of it since it was still obviously murder or excessive in terms of self-defence. In fact, the police actually thanked Taekyung for bringing Myunghoon to justice, and recommend that Taekyung keep a low profile for the time being, since the ministry of justice were paying close attention to him.[6]==References==
