Jeok Cheongang (적천강), better known as the Flame Emperor or Fire King (Hangul: 화왕, Hanzi: 火王),[1] is the 18th successor of the Fire Gate Clan,[2] and a member of the One God! Three Saints! Ten Kings![3].
He is Jin Taekyung's martial arts teacher and greatest ally.
Personality[]
Cheongang is the kind of person who sees things he starts through to the end.[2]
He has a hot temper but appears to be somewhat of a tsundere, demonstrated by him having a soft spot for surrogate son figures such as Jopil and Taekyung, despite their cheekiness. He also has a hard time admitting that he's excited about seeing what Taekyung will achieve by learning his clan's techniques with his Natural Martial Body, due to his pride and seemed shy about directly admitting that he wanted a true master-disciple relationship with Taekyung.[2]
Background[]
As a child, Jeok Cheongang was accepted into the Fire Gate Clan at the young age of nine years old. Cheongang's activities in his youth aren't entirely known but he had killed a martial artist from the Demonic Cult and once mentioned that the people of the murim were fighting over southern and northern parts of the murim.
40 years ago, during the Great War of the Orthodox and Demonic, the demonic factions took advantage of the situation and defeated the Nangong Family and occupied the region of Anhui.
In the process, numerous lootings, acts of cruelty, and arson took place amongst the common people. Legend has it that the sight of fire set on Mount Guhua angered him and over 1000 demonic martial artists were killed in a mere span of four days, causing them to retreat from Anhui but that didn't relieve Cheongang's anger, having gone to hunt down and kill any demonic martial artist within his sights for a whole year. That's when people started calling him the "Flame King."[3]
During this period of the war, Cheongang traveled throughout the Murim encountering powerful martial artists like Hong Dao, the Shaolin's greatest master, whom became his best friend after the two bonded through a meal of meat and liquor while also fighting together on the battlefield with Hong Dao's ferociousness in destroying demonic cultists startled even him due to the monk's power.
He attended the Great Celestial Banquet once in his life and dismissed it as nothing more but a place for networking among those with power and to butter up their egos, rather than for striving for mastery. However, he only attended because he was asked by the Martial God, making it the first and last time that the One God! Three Saints! Ten Kings! were gathered in one place before disappearing from the public again.[4]
Abilities & Techniques[]
Master Jeok is one of the strongest characters in the series. He is able to disguise his power, making qi sense to pick him up as merely level 3.[5]
He is the greatest example of an absolute supreme peak martial master,[6] who's ranked among the top 20 martial artists with his world domineering power.[3] He is the strongest and the most dangerous among the Ten Kings.[7]

Sleep is an extravagance for a martial artist. Train if you can afford to sleep.
Taekyung promises to come and sees him when dawn breaks, but after returning to Murim, he decides to meet him before dawn, explaining that the answer is already obvious. Cheongang notices that Taekyung has gained some kind of enlightenment again. He chuckles calling him a brat and opens the door with a wave of his hand. From the doorstep, Taekyung asks him to please teach him martial arts. To which Cheongang responds, he'll teach him all that he knows![8]
