Jeok Cheongang (적천강), better known as the Flame Emperor or Fire King (Hangul: 화왕, Hanzi: 火王),[1] is the 18th successor of the Scorching Clan,[2] and a member of the One God! Three Saints! Ten Kings![3].
He is Jin Taekyung's martial arts teacher.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Cheongang is the kind of person who sees things he starts through to the end.[2]
He has a hot temper and appears to be somewhat of a tsundere, demonstrated by him having a soft spot for surrogate son figures such as Jopil and Taekyung, despite their cheekiness. He also has a hard time admitting that he's excited about seeing what Taekyung can achieve by learning his clan's techniques with his natural martial body, due to his pride. He also seems shy about directly admitting he wants a true master-disciple relationship with Taekyung.[2]
Abilities[]
Master Jeok is able to disguise his power, making qi sense to pick him up as merely level 3.[4]
He is a supreme peak martial master,[5] who's ranked among the top 20 martial artists with his world domineering power.[3] He is the strongest and the most dangerous among the Ten Kings.[6]
Techniques[]
- Ghostly Dance of the Fire God: One of his ultimate martial techniques that appears to be a move that can only be used once.[7]
Background[]
He attended the Great Celestial Banquet once in his life and dismisses it as a place for networking among those with power and to butter up their egos, rather than for striving for mastery. However, he only attended because he was asked by the Martial God, making it the first and last time that the One God! Three Saints! Ten Kings! were gathered in one place.[8] 40 years ago, during the Great War of the Orthodox and Demonic, the demonic factions took advantage of the situation and defeated the Namgoong Family and occupied Anhui castle. In the process, numerous lootings, acts of cruelity, and arson took place amongst the common people. Legend has it that the sight of fire set on Mount Guhua angered him. Over 1000 demonic martial artists were killed in a mere span of four days, so they had to retreat from Anhui castle. But that didn't relieve the old man's anger, as he continued to go around and kill every and any demonic martial artist in sight for a whole year before he disappeared again. That's when people started calling him the "Flame King."[3]
10 years ago, he parted with his first disciple, Jopil, on a horrible footing.[2]
Sleep is an extravagance for a martial artist. Train if you can afford to sleep.
Taekyung promises to come and sees him when dawn breaks, but after returning to Murim, he decides to meet him before dawn, explaining that the answer is already obvious. Cheongang notices that Taekyung has gained some kind of enlightenment again. He chuckles as he calls him a brat and opens the door with a wave of his hand. From the doorstep, Taekyung asks him to please teach him martial arts. To which Cheongang responds, he'll teach him all that he knows![9]
