Hong Dao (Hangul: 굉도, Hanja: 宏道), better known as King Dharma (Hangul: 법왕, Hanja: 法王) in the murim, was the Abbot of Shaolin [1][2] and a member of the One God! Three Saints! Ten Kings! of the murim.

Cheonggang describes him as lazy for sleeping 5 hours a day, though Hong Dao explains he's shrunk it to 4 hours a day due to his responsibilities as abbot.[2]
Background[]
During the Great War of Good and Evil, Hong Dao happened to be drinking booze and eating meat. He was caught in the act by Jeok Cheongang, and they became drinking buddies. He was an abbot at the time.[2]
He took in Muyeong as an unofficial disciple. Despite the request of the preceptory, Hong Dao decided to inhabit a humble residence that lacking in maintenance. Though he blows it off, claiming that the Shaolin Temple does not quibble over formalities, and that wherever he decides to reside is the abbot's chamber.[2]
While observing the heavens, Hong Dao noticed a rising star appearing in the north 4 months ago, which is when Korean Taekyung first entered Murim Login. "A rising star is like a firecracker. They light up the night sky and fade once time passes." What's unusual is that this rising star still hasn't faded at all, but instead shines brighter as time passes. Hong Dao identifies this rising star as Jin Taekyung.[2]
30 years ago, he began brewing a snake wine called the 1000 year old viper, reserved for a day like reuniting with his old friend Cheongang.[2] While drinking, Hong Dao reveals that heaven's will has been absent for ages, and that he hasn't been able to read it for a long time now. Out of nowhere, black clouds emerged and concealed the heavens, sun and stars, which he interprets as a sign that an unknown chaos is approaching. Yet despite that, a new star rose; a rising star so bright, despite the dark skies. Cheongang explains the activities of the ominous Dark Heaven organization. With this information, Hong Dao plans to use everything at his disposal to prepare for the impending chaos, while Cheongang trains the new star so that it is not so easily dimmed. When dusk falls, Cheongang and Taekyung set out, without seeing them out, suggesting that they finish the talk that they couldn't have today next time.[3]
He appears to have been defeated by the Blood Lord, who cut of his legs and left him falling to the earth coughing blood.[4]

Hong Dao has spent years observing the heavens, which has allowed him to read heaven's qi.[2]
Trivia[]
- His name "Hong Dao" literally means great way in Chinese. His hangul name reads Geongdo as romaja.
