Cheongpung (청풍) is a peak level martial artist, who turns out to be the adopted grandson of Mae Jonghak, the Sword Saint of the Huashan Sect and famed martial artist known throughout the murim.[1] During the Great Celestial Banquet, he went by the nickname Invincible Divine Sword.[2]
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Cheongpung is a glutton. Due to his upbringing, he's never had the opportunity to try different kinds of food before. After losing his travel expenses, he asked some strangers for a favor and proceeded to order everything on the menu, since he was starving. He is quite attached to the place he grew up, describing the mountain as a fun place with beautiful scenery. But he also claims he would have descended earlier if he knew so much delicious food existed elsewhere before.[3]
He has demonstrated a competitive spirit, shown by how he decided to descend the mountain to prove his martial arts by beating the strongest people in the murim.[3]
He is genuine and honest,[4] to the point of being naive. Since he has never been exposed to the outside world, he is very pure in exploring the world around him. Taekyung notes how he's easy to handle because of this,[5] though he can also be perceived as a simple-minded idiot.[1] He wasn't even aware of his own background before he descended the mountain.[4] He is also quite cheerful frequently expressing a positive attitude in opposite of the stern nature of the Huashan sect.[?]
He is quite clumsy, since he doesn't know how things work, and has a penchant for getting in trouble. Luckily, he has Taekyung around to take care of him and teach him the ways of the real world, though he will also take advantage of Cheongpung's status to get even with annoying people.[6] He enjoys traveling with Taekyung, saying that fun things keep happening when they're together.[6] and affectionally calls him his "Savior" or "benefactor".[?]
Abilities[]
At the age of 20, he is already a peak level expert, making him a genius comparable to or stronger than Mukyung.[3] At the mere age of 10, he was already able to perform the Plum Blossom Sword Technique, meaning he was already a first-rate martial artist at that point. He is skilled in all the techniques of Huashan, though he never identified it as belonging to that sect, since his grandfather didn't explain it properly to him. He also possesses Violet Dawn Divine Art. Jonghak also instructed him to not reveal his martial arts to strangers.[7] Mukyung confirms that he mostly likely possesses such a high level of martial arts that it's comparable to or beyond that of the top ten sect's elders.[4]

Background[]
Cheongpung was probably adopted by the sword saint, Mae Jonghak, since he told him that he was delivered by a crane and because they don't share the same last name.[7]
My grandfather said that the sky would take care of the baby until the right time came for the crane to pick it up ... is it not like that
Cheongpung to Taekyung
Since he was 5, Cheongpung grew up with his grandfather on an isolated mountain detached from society. They moved to a different place once or twice a year, because strange people kept seeking his grandfather out. One day when he was 10, dozens of people suddenly came and wreaked havoc. His grandfather shouted at them to go away, before setting the mountain on fire. Ever since then, they were able to avoid those people, probably because the mountain was a big place.[3] He claims he is from Henan, but he only stayed there for about half a month before moving back to Shanxi.[1]
When he turned 20, he decided to descend for the first time to [3] set out on a dueling pilgrimage, determined to not return until he's beaten all of the Ten Dragons and Phoenixes. He traveled through Hubei, and arrived at Hainan a month later, where he looked for the Heavenly Jin Blade at the Cheonmu academy to no avail. So, he continued on to Shanxi.[4] On his way, he somehow lost his travel expenses and was left starving. While wandering the streets of Taiyuan, he encountered Taekyung and Mujin bickering over gourd candy, asking if he could have them if they're not planning on eating it. Taekyung detects that Cheongpung is much stronger than them and makes Mujin hand over the candy. He also asks them for a favor, so Taekyung brings him to the Honghwa inn for a meal together. Cheongpung humbly orders everything on the menu.[3]
Trivia[]
- Cheopung had a special bond with animals. Whenever he rested in the fields of Mount Hua, birds, deer, and even tigers would gather around him. Even Tang Mimi, a serpent known for avoiding others, trusted him and followed his commands. When Cheopung asked Mimi to perform a whirlwind attack, the serpent obeyed without hesitation.
